The Many-Faced Princess

This is a collage of pictures. In the upper left is a brown-skinned woman who's face is mostly in shadow. She has dark hair. To the right is a golden dagger. Beneath is a young pale skinned woman in a gray headcovering. To the right of her is an ancient window overlooking a stone city. Below is a series of stone doorways. Last, a mosaic of a lion.

Ameryi’s mother always told her that her ability to change her face is a curse—a “gift” from the evil trickster god. If her loving father, the king, ever found out she could do it, he'd execute her. For eighteen years, Ameryi has only pretended to be a good princess. Everything changes when a great empire threatens to war with her little city-state.

Her father sends her to the neighboring city-state to marry its king and secure an alliance that will allow them to survive the coming war. But the king’s sister hates Ameryi on sight and plots to get rid of her. The king himself is a noxious man who despises intelligent women. Marrying him won't bring the alliance her people need so badly, so she commits the ultimate sin by stealing his face.
